Rodney asks because early cars were positive ground. By the time the Mary Quant came into existance they were all negative ground. You should be safe connecting the battery as you planned.
It's also worth checking the ground connection to the body while your in there.

If you can afford the car, you can afford the manual...
Okay, got him running he is now in a garage to dry out, not sure where the leak is but it ended up condensing all over the inside so I got the space to put him inside and dry him out. sigh. Once he is dry I will get him a cover and have to give up the garage space to my house mate.
Battery? Works. Posts a bit large, and must test alternator to make sure it's okay. And the Saga of Earl continues.

Hi there,
While you have Earl inside, my suggestion would be to lift up the carpets and put something under them ( preferably non absorbent ) to lift those carpets up from the floor. If you have sound deadening, lift it up also. If you can, put a small fan to move some air. I don't think heat is necessary unless you have some seriously wet upholstery. Then, maybe a wet dry shop vac is in order. When it all seems dry, there is still alot of moisture in there, so consider putting the little dri eze contraptions ( home centers, GI Joes, Camping / RV stores ) in a small shoe box on the floor while it's parked outside. They really work for stored vehicles / RV's/ small buildings.
Finally, and actually this is probably the first step, wash your car and spray the seals and cracks in Earl's tough exterior to see where the water might be coming in. You could have small leaks that allow the moisture in and then that starts the cycle of condensation. Oh, and also, drive your car with the heat on high every where you go during the winter - then, for a minute or two when you are getting ready to park, open the windows and let out some of the hot air. ( I'm not the only one with excess hot air! )
Good luck, and,
Best regards,
MSH
Pull up the carpets so they can dry top & bottom or else they will mildew. Pop out a rubber plug in the floor if there is a puddle to let it drain. A space heater with a fan will help. A fan alone is better than nothing. Remember to disconnect the battery if you leave the doors open or else the possibly functioning interior light will drain your new battery.
Thank you thank you, I already have the fans going and the carpets pulled, I don't really have a heater for the space, but I am at least on the right track. As for driving around with the heat on. all I have to say is.... Heat???
