This thing would not fit in a distributor at about 1 1/2" long. The case was mounted (grounded) to the body and the wire was soldered to the original black/green wiper motor +12 V conductor. This is in a '63 850.

    What's it's purpose?

My guess is some sort of noise supression. Was the wiper motor interfering with a RADIO?

You're probably right about noise suppression. There was probably a ground problem with the radio, possibly a negative ground radio on a positive ground car that wasn't installed properly. The wiper motor can make a horrible sound through a radio.

The fix, of course, is to remove the radio.

    Cheers,

If you can afford the car, you can afford the manual...
