I'll make a stab at it, the only English Mini was the 1979 Mini 1100 Special. They were also used in some Clubman models, the Austin/Morris/MG 1100 and in a number of Australian and some South African models. Others will know more about the non-English cars than I will.

1100's in the U.S. are almost exclusively from MG1100s. I have heard but never verified that the earliest Austin Americas had 1100 engines. Since Austin America's 1275 was more desirable, we tend to have a lot 1100s left.

The 12G202 was used in the 997 Cooper and the earliest 1100s. The 12G295 would be a simple upgrade but you would probably have to deck it to keep the same compression ratio since the combustion chamber is larger in the 12G295.
