  • Concours d'LeMons at Infineon

I got the MG Metro running in time to go to the Concours d'LeMons Box Wine Country Classic at Infineon Raceway last weekend, held in conjunction with the Sears Pointless 24 Hours of LeMons race. The car performed flawlessly for the 1800-mile round-trip and delivered approximately 42 mpg while using only two quarts of oil. Concours entrants got to take a couple of parade laps around the raceway on Sunday morning before the race itself resumed:

This was a smaller show (about thirty cars) than the main Concours d'LeMons on Monterey Weekend, so the "formal" classes were dropped. The car did win a box of wine for longest distance, though.

The LeMons race is quite a spectacle and a 998cc Mini ran over 200 laps during the two days to finish the "race." There's lots of coverage of the event on the Mini Mania Forum.
The more I know about Minis, the more I know I don't know about Minis.

I was hoping for some first-hand info from Mike and more on the trip too.

I'm swamped with end-of-quarter stuff (and won't be at tomorrow's meeting because I'm giving a final exam from 7-9 PM), but I'll put together some more details when time permits. One highlight is that I'm now in the market for a hydraulic clutch damper (specific to the Metro, I believe). It failed a couple of days before I left, so I'm still describing the trip itself as without incident.
