How does the term "Seven" relate to a Mini? Is it considered an older model or something?

That's kind of what I was thinking, I did a search on "Seven Mini" and it led me to believe that it was a reference to the late 50's/early 60's Mini model. I'm trying to come up with a vanity plate for my mini that might reference the number 7 but I wanted to know where it originated from.

The Seven name associated with Minis lasted only until January 1962. Changed to Austin Mini (for English market cars) then. Export cars (at least for a few countries like the U.S.) were not known as Seven or Mini if the 848cc models. Badged as Austin 850.The more I know about Minis, the more I know I don't know about Minis.
