Great photo! Haven't seen that set up before.
In the Minis Across American video, I believe it is, there is a similar one. Eighteen-wheeler with a Mini 18-wheeler that rolls out of the back.
The more I know about Minis, the more I know I don't know about Minis.
I like the second one the best, it has better lines. The hard part has already been done, little bit of clean up and it's a phantom ready for show and go. I wouldn't kick the first one out of my garage either.
Coming from a street rodding background I tend like stuff that looks like it could have come from the factory that way. I love it when the purists cringe at something really well executed. Once at the "Port Orchard Cruz" car show there was a guy with a very well finished '49 Ford "Three Window Coupe" made out of a Tudor. We were parked close enough to it that we could hear people arguing all day that either they, a friend, dad... had one just like it! Vs. The Ford never made one guys. Probably only a handful of these exist, all copies of ZZ Top's Billy Gibbon's Copperhead, Ford never made or thought of it.
Re: Factory made hot rods, etc.....
I was at an air cooled VW festival this summer and saw this most incredible double cab that had the rear corners of the cab modified with the rear corner windows out of a bus; it looked absolutely phenominal. The creators work was flawless, So good I'm going to try to post a photo on this posting for you to see.
Very Nice!!! That looks like it was an early barn door bus in the first place, did it have opening rear doors on both sides? I have only seen two "walk thru" passenger busses in thirty years, they made a lot of commercial vans as "walk thru's" though.
Finally something to do with all those "Stubby" VW Buses that got hacked up in the late '60's. Weld the pick up bed on one and you've got a one off!
Lots of 55 - 57 Chevrolet and a few Ford more-door wagons lost half a door or more in length. There used to be a couple of 57's and a 55 Chevrolet Stubby Wagons that cruised Bremerton in the early '70's, all three did wheelies at will with nothing more than a warmed over small block and powerglide.
I remember the fit and finish not being up to today's standards, then again we are seeing some of the best finishes on reborn cars since the golden age of the coach builders in the 20's and 30's.
Hey Skip, I can't remember if it had both side barn doors or not. I do remember seeing 2-3 rough examples of double barn door busses that day though.
Best regards,
MSH
