  • No Rust

What does the term "no rust" really mean as it pertains to Minis?

I find it funny to see cars in ads and on eBay stating "no rust" or "rust free" only to see lots of rust in the actual photos of the car!

Does no rust really mean, no rust holes?

Are people looking at their cars through rust colored glasses?

    What gives?

Rust free means what it says! The rust is free.... everything else you pay for!

My 67 Austin Cooper S for sale has virtually no rust. That means that it is 99 % rust free. It has a couple of small spots on the roof corners above the windshield pillars. Sills, floors, valance, etc. are excellent. It's probably as close to a rust free car as you'll ever find.
I looked at a few others before buying this one, and found that what Nimbits said is true - "That the rust is free!"

        Hey bcjoe,

My comment wasn't pointed directly at you. Hope you didn't take it that way.

I've seen ads that claim new paint, stripped to bare metal, absolutely no rust, then they show pictures with rust. For instance the floor under the spare.

I could see saying "no rot", "has surface rust", but to claim no rust and then show pictures of rust seems to be the "norm" with many Mini ads.

The meaning of "no rust" varies, in general, depending upon the country. For instance, I tease my English friends that "no rust" to them means that one can't quite get one's hands through the holes, yet.
The more I know about Minis, the more I know I don't know about Minis.

Like Chuck said the description varies. I flew to the SF Bay area to look at two minis that were listed as "no rust". There was "no rust" to be seen from 5 feet, but there were rust bubbles in all the usual places under the fresh repaint!!

And the plane ticket was a small price to pay for getting what you want! That is the only advice I can give. Go see it in person and make your own assesment.
