  • importing a mini costs

It s a long time for me and cannot remember:
what are the costs to bring a mini in at the port of Seattle or Tacoma
Fee% of the value of the car.?
    Customs costs.
    clearing ??

    peter
ps.: I don t mean the ship costs.

It's been a long time since I imported a car, Peter, but I think the import duty is still 2.5 percent of the value of the car and 25 percent if it's a truck. Port fee was only a couple of hundred bucks. If you use a broker or have to get the car cleaned, those will increase your costs, of course.

Times have changed. There is so much paperwork now days that it is almost impossible to bring in a car without a broker helping you through all the steps...each of them costing money.

Tacoma is a Ro/Ro port (Roll On/Roll Off). Seattle is not. Shipping is cheaper and clearing a car is cheaper if you go Ro/Ro, but costs have gone up...and you can't get out on the dock any more to pick up and clear your own car. You have to hire someone to escort you at $50/hour with a minimum one hour fee.
It's even more expensive at the Seattle docks to get a container cleared. I'll have lots of details about a Seattle inport shortly. I have a Mk 3 Mini coming in from South Africa. Unfortunately, I bought the car using memories of many previous imports. But the costs of getting the car cleared out of South Africa; shipping costs; and getting the car cleared into Seattle and picked up are going to be about double what I paid for the car.
The olde import days are long gone.
The more I know about Minis, the more I know I don't know about Minis.
