It is with great sadness…….
For all of you car people, especially for those of you in California, It is with great sadness that we convey this message:
Cal Worthington Dies
Anyone who grew up in Southern California in the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s no doubt at one time was urged to “Go See Cal.” Cal Worthington became an extremely well-known pitchman for his empire of new car dealerships that were most famous for his “My dog, Spot” commercials featuring all kinds of animals – from hippos to tigers and even Shamu the killer whale ( Orca whale ) – all kinds of animals except a dog. Cal’s “Spot” commercials helped make him of the best-known television pitchmen in car dealer history. Jim Donnelly interviewed Cal in HCC # 35 where Cal recalls his time leaving Oklahoma, moving to California and becoming a B-17 pilot. After the war, he established a chain of 29 dealerships from Phoenix to California and stretching as far north as Anchorage. Cal passed away in September at the age of 92. Rest in Peace, Cal. ( We’ll seeya there……. )
