  • Alki Auto Body Shop

Does Alki Auto Body Shop still exist? While sorting through the boxes of parts that came with the Cooper S (see Mk 1 Discovered in the Cars for Sale section...) I found a tag attached to one of the con rods with the shop's name. New pistons had been fitted, perhaps by that shop. The curious thing is that only three of the pistons were ringed. The other set was in a plastic bag. All of the machine work was done on the engine; bored, crank ground, head rebuilt, and then it sat. I don't know if the same shop did all the work. The writing on the tag affixed to the crank has long faded.
I'm curious to unravel some of the mystery of this car.

Thanks for that, but I don't think it is the same shop. The shop referenced in the link didn't open until 1986. It does not appear that they do machine work either. I will be calling, however.
