Just wrote a long post about this, but baby daughter on lap hit the "back" button, which deleted my post. 
Short story: petition to the federal govt to change import laws to allow 15 year-old cars into the country. Needs 25K signatures...has roughly 10K so far. Needs another 15K in the next 3 weeks. I'll write more later.

I believe it was started by a fellow who had his Japanese-market Nissan Skyline hunted down, seized, and destroyed by Department of Homeland Security guys.
I don't know how you all feel, but I think it's silly that a 1961 850 Mini with a worn-out engine, poorly adjusted carb, and single leading shoe drum brakes is completely legal in this state (no safety inspection required!), but a 1996 MPI with disc brakes, catalytic converter, and airbag is not legal. Where's the logic?
