  • Off to Illinois

I'm driving to Crystal Lake, IL starting Monday (16 August) for the, um, 'big' microcar and minicar show:

    http://worldmeet2010.com

The Metro is just small enough to qualify as a minicar at this event, so although its primary mission will be towing my KV Mini 1 microcar there and back, I'm also entering it in its own right. With any luck the Metro will have the questionable distinction of being the largest car there! The organizers are expecting a significant turnout of Minis; I'll park with them to give everyone a chance to see a Metro's 1275cc engine in its natural habitat.

    Should be fun.

That looks like a tidy package, Mike. Happy Trails!

Hey, the Metro made it! My father and I left the Seattle area Monday morning and arrived at Crystal Lake this evening (Thursday), following two 600-mile days and two 450-mile days on the road. "Something" happened crossing the Rockies, though, because for the rest of the trip the engine pushed unburnt oil out the tailpipe at a rate of one quart (US) for every 100 miles. Tomorrow's tasks: (1) Find a car wash for the KV. (2) Consult with the local Mini owners about engine repair.

We made it back from Illinois yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, bringing with us a plaque for Furthest Driven (Direct Route)! Both cars were well received. We covered 4200 miles in total; not bad for what someone in South Dakota described as "a Yugo towing a refrigerator."

The Metro reduced its oil loss to about a quart every 200 miles for the return trip but is now mostly burning it instead of spewing it out undigested. I suppose after 28 years and 62,000 miles it may, just may, be time for a rebuild....

Congratulations on covering the distance. That's encouraging, considering I'm about to take another Metro motor on a 2,000-mile trek.

And I know those South Dakotaonians can be harsh. Last time I drove through there, one of 'em tried to bite me.

Saw your KV in the photo gallery at microcar.org, by the way. Good show.
